I'm not a huge fan of automatics, b/c i switch watchs alot and some will go for a good while before making it back into the rotation.

Great looking watch though. It looks as tough as a tank.

This is the best watch I've owned. Built like a tank.

That is AWESOME. I have a soft spot in my heart for traditional divers like that. I'm actually wearing a black bezel Hamilton Khaki Diver Automatic right now. Care to PM me where one could get such a watch?

That is another good looking watch. My only issue I take with this particular invicta is that the black parts of the band shows wear really easily. It tries to look like ceramic in other similar styled watches, but the ceramic holds up better. Now if this was being worn as a dress watch only I would get one in a heartbeat.

Mineral vs Sapphire (stolen from watchuseek)

The yield strength of sapphire is in the neighborhood of 2.25 GPa.
The yield strength of mineral glass is around 75 GPa.

The modulus of elasticity (how easily the material deforms) for the two: sapphire - 250 GPa, and mineral glass - 82.5 GPa.

What does all this mean? It means, for the same diameter and thickness of watch crystal, it takes about 35 times more force to fail a piece of glass than a piece of sapphire, but sapphire will deform about three time more than glass before failing.

Plastics have a yield stength of around 67 GPa, and a modulus of elasticity of 2585 GPa, which means they are about as strong as glass but able to deform about ten times more than glass before failing.

Also, sapphire and mineral glass is tested by dropping a 2.25 ounce steel ball-bearing on a representative crystal from varying heights until the crystal breaks and the total amount of energy needed to break the glass can be calculated. According to ISO 14368, Part 3, mineral glass must absorb 1600 to 2100x10^-4 Newton-Meters, sapphire is only required to 800 to 1800x10^-4 NM.

Not sure of the price on that Invicta- It is a limited edition that is no longer available. I would guess retail is well over $1000 and most likely over $2000...That's just a guess and going by other similar Invicta watches.

I could never spend more than $500 on a watch. For $500 you can get a heck of a watch.

Take a look at BATHYS watches. I have one, its been good, an automatic, two years now, very durable; rugged and keeps good time. Keep it simple, don't buy features you don't need or want. But do buy the best you can afford, buy it to use. No matter how good it is suppose to be, you won't know it if you don't use it- good luck.
