I was in a local surplus store yesterday and saw that sardine can survival
type kit. Thought it would be interesting, but didn't pick it up.
It would definitely save space and such, but you would need to have something
else to put it in once it had been opened.

I decided to make my own, and put one together in an old camera pouch that I
wasn't using. Not water proof, but I put everything into a waterproof plastic
bag and then put that into the pouch. Gives me the benefit of having the bag for
use as well

Cheers

I like that survival kit I think I might pick up a few. I need to lighten up my BOB that looks like the perfect size with the right items. They actually have them at Walmart Dot Com lol
The local Wal-Mart here has them in stock.
They seem to have cleared out most of the Coleman stuff an introduces a lot of that brand.

I haven't had the sleeping bag outside yet, but tried it out in the living room the other day. After about 3 minutes of being inside the bag you could really feel the warmth starting to surround yourself. I cant wait to get this bad boy outside and see how it does. Unfortunately it's gonna be a while since I just had my second shoulder surgery {Monday 14th} in 3 months.

Sportsnut, that sucks about the shoulder surgeries.
Hope that you get well soon so that you can get the sleeping bag out
and give it a good test.

Cheers

As I see it, the lack of ability to be resealed is it's greatest asset, at that price anyway. Makes it impossible for you to "borrow" stuff from it and forget to replace it, then be without in an actual emergency.

Good point.
I'm going to be at the surplus store tomorrow, might just pick one of them
up.

Cheers

Well, I went to the surplus store today, but couldn't find any of the
sardine can survival kits.
Seems that they sold out their entire supply.
Also sold out their entire supply of Sterno fuel cans as well.
Seems a restaurant came in and bought their entire supply.
5 pallet loads full. They use them in their buffets.
Have to wait until January now.

The Scout Shop here sells the sardine cans, if you have one of those near you.

Nope, no Scout Shop here. That's ok though. I can wait until January.
For now, most of my travelling is in the car, and I carry my full kit in the
trunk along with my snowmobile suit and extra clothes in the winter.

My current focus is getting a little wood stove. Have a Kelly Kettle, and
while it's great, I see the need for a back up to my Brunton multi fuel stove.
Next week, I'm going to make a large hobo stove from a 1Kg coffee can.
Have seen a few now, and like the design.

Cheers
