a machete is a stamped out chopper with a crude edge.

It that elusive "cheapness" that makes Machete work!

no, but we see the misapplication of knife terms all the time.

10"+ blades can all be called machetes no matter how thick they are. Does it really matter what you call it? I call my 24" Ontario "Billy Bad @$$" (excuse my french) and would dare anyone to stand within a few feet of him and say different. LOL
I mean it would be one thing to call a Dog Father a folding knife or Hobo knife but I wouldn't freak out if someone called mine a "camp knife" or a "machete" because it can be either one. The Battle Mistress, no matter the thickness is a machete. The Dog Father, machete. Scrapper 5 CG, machete. My 2 function swiss army knife, MACHETE!

LOL. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Darned right! If I'm whacking something with it, it's a machete! Now go over to Busse forum and set them straight! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Whats funny if joe public sees you holding a large knife they may start worrying but if you say something like, I like my machete to look fancy, they would probably relax and laugh with you.
A big knife is a weapon
But a machete is a tool
To many of the sheeple

In my opinion, the main difference between sword and machete is about the use they are intended (and optimized) for: the machete is for clearing your way through deep vegetation, while the sword is intended as a weapon. An axe or hatchet is intended for heavy chopping and wood splitting. A knife is basically a smaller tool, intended for push and friction cutting and slicing. A bayonet is a stabbing tool. And a bowie knife is intended to do all these things (of course it will not chop as well as an axe or clear the bush as a machete, nor will it be as effective weapon as a sword or stab as a bayonet; but it will do these all with acceptable efficiency).

The difference in design are all caused by the intended use. So, a samurai sword cannot be called "machete" (for example)!

I didn't know "machete" is a low-cost stuff related name!
I thought all Kukris fall in the machete cathegory also.

[color:"orange"] What I understand by [color:"yellow"] "machete" is a long bladed knife which is also wide enough and which is intended for clearing your path while walking through the jungle or other rich vegetation areas.

I have just found a more precise description of what a machete is:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machete

Cheers!

Every time I try to pull the trigger on the BW I just click off the site. I don't know why but the CGFBM is still a better choice for me. The BW is too close to the DF or M9 role too. Not saying I will not get one, just have not rationalized it yet.
