Just curious, as we do not have any coyote's here in FL - What's the purpose of hunting coyotes? Can/do you eat them? Is it strictly for sport? Population control? They eat all the game animals! Hear them here all the time at night outside. Just tonight I had one of the dogs out and heard a dozen or more of them all yipping.

Going wolf hunting this winter, however I won't pass up a coyote while I am out. Have a Remington 700 SPS in .223 for the purpose. Strictly pelt hunting here, however with the wolves it is also to help out the moose population. Wolf population has spiked here and they are really doing a number on the moose. Saw one wolf pack last year that was about 14 animals. I've already seen some tracks that are showing packs of about 7 to 10 animals. Takes a lot of moose to feed them unfortunately...

Thinking of giving it a go this year. Wife's great uncle runs a trap line and I've helped him check his traps a few times.

I was wondering what your setup was as well, then I looked again and saw the "pistol grip" and knew it was a T/C. I know it sounds dumb, but I always wondered how a "short barrel" could be more accurate than a "regular" rifle. I had an XP-100 in .223 for a while and traided it off for a 600 mohawk in .308 (like that rifle). Don't hunt here any more, but the Coyote population has grown over the last several years. It seems what when you have a successful conservation program, you also have a successful PREDATOR program even if you don't want it. I can walk outside the office here in town (1849 population) and hear them yipping from several directions.

We're thick with them down here. Good thing too, they keep the feral cat population in check. They're all over the King Ranch but you can't hunt there. Drive from here to San Antonio and the roadside will be littered with them from being hit by vehicles. Go down to the Padre Island National Seashore and you'll see them but, you can't shoot them with anything but a camera.
Inside each knife is a new adventure waiting to be had...maybe some blood and probably some suture.

Coyotes almost wiped out the turkey population here in Georgia years ago and I hear they are doing a number on the deer population too.
You can hunt them all year round with anything you want.
So Sportsnut, you can use your coyote setup here in Georgia if you want

Sportsnut,
That's an amazing coyote gun. How accurate is that? What's your longest kill with that thing?

I have busted a few with varmint rounds but have never really got out and truly hunted them. I might give it a try this winter for fun.
I know this much, if I were starving I would eat a yote before a rat or a lot of the other smaller vermin game.
