I was just wondering if there were any other 'yote slayers here. I live on the Yakima Indian Reservation and have a special permit to hunt on the "Rez". Part of the program is that we have to take blood samples and record some other information such age, sex, and location of kill.
There are so many coyotes this year. Last weekend, I saw over 12 in just over a couple of hours. We drive around the hot spots and take 200-400 yard action shots. Last weekend, I nailed one at about 250 yards. Not my longest kill, but a good start to the season. We will call them in later on in the season too. It's just more fun chasing them down.
Anyhow, just thought I'd ask if there were other's. I was considering posting pics but, a light .243 Win bullet going 3700 FPS can leave a mess. One of my favorite critters to hunt. I use a Savage in 204 cal. Longest shot/kill was 321 yards on a sleeping yelp-er on the side of a ridge...never knew what hit it. My biggest surprise with coyotes was when I was driving our RTV with my son Mike to head back to a blind for coyote hunting. We came over a hill and almost hit 7 dogs sleeping in a pack. Mike had the gun and dogs were running everywhere with shots ringing out all over. It was like flushing a covey of quail, but on the ground...which one do you aim at...all of them... LOL. They all got away but that was something. Dan

you just look down the barrel and if something is moving at the other end you squeeze.

Nice story Dan, sounds like a lot of fun.
Stump Buster, thanks for the pictures. I really like the way that rifle looks, found out my friend has one, going to have to check his out to get a feel for it. Beautiful country as well!

I finally got some time off for the holidays at the end of this week. Yote hunting is my favorite past time. I will send pictures if I am successful or not. I got some new gear and I hope to give reports on it as well. I need to get a small SY for retrieving pelts. The one I currently use is a great shape but could use some improvements. Thanks for starting this post and I enjoy your hunting stories Dan. I knew there was a reason I liked this group (other than an obsession with steel).

Just curious, as we do not have any coyote's here in FL - What's the purpose of hunting coyotes? Can/do you eat them? Is it strictly for sport? Population control? What part of FL do you live in? We have plenty of them here in north central FL. Coyotes killed 7 of our chickens one night. You can go out about 10 p.m. and hear them start yipping and calling to each other. I see them hit by cars pretty often on the road I live on. They know I look for them so they stay the hell away from our yard now. After the killed our chickens I wanted blood...BAD! They wised up real fast and stayed away. I'n FL coyotes are nocturnal so maybe thats why you dont see them. I live is East central FL - South and East of the Orlando area...I have never heard of any coyotes around this area or over near Tampa when I lived there. Interesting to know that they do exist in FL though. Thanks. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Yes Doggs, it's that time of year again:) REZ HOGG for hunting...It also double as my bug out truck. First 'yote of the season taken at 300 yards with my "quarter-boar" (quarter-bore = .25 caliber). Notice how well that dog blends with the brush. It's gonna be good year. We hope to win another tournament this year.

Awesome Shot Omar, it's getting around time for those pelts to be worth something right?
Anyone know of 'yote country in Colorado? I would love to do some hunting with my .308 now that she's scoped.

ECF, I've heard that this year the pelts are worth about 40.00 for the decent ones.
