Thanks for the informative review. I have neither blade but my previous experience with thick blades is consistent with your's and HD's results. I don't understand the fascination with thick blades, but lots of folks seem to like them. Just not the best solution to any cutting problem I am likely to encounter.

I think thick, if done right, can make for an exceptional blade.

The thickest knife I own is the Regulator, at a third of an inch thick.

It is an AWESOME knife. With the full flat grind, it is one of the best splitting wedges I've seen for batoning a log, and with the tapered tip, it has a very strong point that still penetrates exceedingly well. That means, for digging a hole, or drilling, or prying fatwood out of a stump, the regulator is just plain awesome.

It is a thick knife, and sure isn't a slicer, but it doesn't FEEL like a thick knife when you're using it. It has the thickness where it counts, and takes advantage of it.

I wish I could say the same about all of the fat Bussekin knives I've held or used.

The Regulator is certainly awesome, as is the "Big Daddy" himself - the DogFather! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I can tell you that I LOVE my DF- but I like the DFLE even better <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> !!The Regulators are a fantastic chunk of SR 101 <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> !! I would think you would absolutely love this knife Bruce to go with your Camp Tramp <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />? Quite a pair to own <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Great review MM. I like your take on the Regulator, but since my 6months aren't up yet I'm going to hold my comments.

Awesome review/chop off Mustard!!! Great stuff. Shame about the Killa. Not that I was going to get one, but I would have expected better. Please do a follow-up of the Bushwacker vs. the LTC. The bushwacker should be terrific - can't wait! I'm also in your camp. Long and lean makes the scene baby!

I've had that same 12" Ontario as HD for years and it is great. Even better that it is so [censored] cheap. I have its big brother too, but the 12" carries so nicely strapped to a pack. Only problem is the blade does roll pretty easily if you hit a hard knot.

We need another long and thin SR-77 and Res-C blade! I love my DF, but it gets pretty heavy after a while. I would really love to see the Yard put out another thin DF or longer Dogchete.

Well, in all honesty the Killa Zilla does split wood easier than the machete. No need for a baton. Just hit the wood on the end with that thick 2 1/2 pound Khuk and the wood splits. And on some softer wood, it can out chop the machete by simply breaking the wood with its weight. In chopping the hard wood, the machete bit deeper and chopped better. The KZ is one big impressive hunk of INFI, but I think the upcoming Bushwacker Mistress will be much more practical. I posted my Test Team results on the Killa Zilla over on the Busse forum. It has been six months, so I kept my testing agreement. Jerry has known the results for nearly six months. I did not do a comparison, just a review and pictures.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.
