Let me start by saying hello to everyone. I've collected swords for over a year or so now which is what led me to my first purchase, a Rodent Waki which I recieved on Friday. Now, I can't wait to order my Regulator and find myself spending free time checking ebay and bladeforums for knives for sale. Anyway, its nice to be around like minded people. My question is has anyone removed only some of the coating from a knife, say 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch just from the edge? wondering if it is possible or if the rest of the coating would be affected. Thanks

Welcome to the Yard! Check the links in my sig for useful stuff. My question is has anyone removed only some of the coating from a knife, say 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch just from the edge? wondering if it is possible or if the rest of the coating would be affected. Thanks I don't recall anyone ever doing that. You might be able to use some type of tape, then sand or remove the coating with chemicals. Might be hard to find a tape to stand up to sanding or coating remover though...

Yeah, thats what I figured. I'm gonna have to test a few different types of tape to see what will work the best. Maybe a combo, or even wax. I'll post the results, and pics of my waki after I'm done.

Welcome to the Yard. The only way I have removed only part of the coating from blades was in doing a "regrind". I have never done a partial remove using a chemical stripper.

Can definitely be done with a grinder. Here's a DMCG Ban did. ![[Linked Image from img.photobucket.com]](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v302/MRpilot/mini%20busse%20meet%202/IMG_6804.jpg)
