So what about the preservation of human culture? Of history, science, art, the accumulated knowledge of the human race?

So what about the preservation of human culture? Of history, science, art, the accumulated knowledge of the human race? I suspect that in a true collapse of society the majority of the folks who would say that their focus would be on preserving items with cultural, artistic or historical significance would abandon those ideals very quickly in order to care for their basic survival needs. Those that did not, would most likely become victims.

I believe that if society were to truly collapse, it'd be Mother Nature's way of thinning out the herd.

this thread makes me realize I need more ammo I just took care of that Bill. I have a pile of the Ruger 10/22 s for the women -bricks of ammo- then I have the high power stuff for the guys . So- I bought a crap load of ammo for all. My clan has about 40 all together and all are hunters. Even the children know how to handle the guns.We have emergency food- medical supplies- water filtration plus we live rural and know our area. Never thought about all the " hot chicks" ? Maybe I should make plans to dump my wife ( LOL) NOT - she would shoot my [censored] or cut me up with my knives !!

Perhaps we should look at areas this has already happened and see how they really dealt with it. It seems most of them go to refugee camps or stay home and deal the best they can. Examples are Bosnia, Somalia, Darfur, etc. Camps are tough, but relatively safe. Individuals trying to make a go of it are preyed on by bands of thugs. This is the only account I can find that recounts a group successfully hiding in the forest in WWII. They were effectively warlords protecting a large group of people with various skills in order to survive. Bielski Brothers THE BIELSKI PARTISANS Bosnia has Perucica, one of the last primeval forests in Europe. I wonder how many fled there? Here's an account from one from one of the survivors of Bosnia. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/09/14/AR2007091401968.htmlHere's an account of refugees trying to escape through the forest. I'd get to gardening in a big way, fishing and gathering.
Does remind me how I keep putting of buying a water purifer. Not as much fun as my other toys!

It's hard enough to find animals when they are in season now with folks pretty much following the rules. Will they be available in a quantity to feed you when there are numerous freaks out trying to do the same thing you are?
You also need more food. A 50 pound bag of rice will get you farther than a few traps.
Garden is good if you can keep the thieves out.
