I remember another thread talking about high yield farming as a way to grow enough food to survive in your yard. I asked Yangdu from HI who grew up on a farm in Nepal, how many people a chicken would feed. I was amazed when she said about 10-12. I can eat a Whole chicken myself easily. Apparently they make a broth or soup from them to serve.

Man, what a way to get me thinking on a Sunday evening. Too many things that dictate my answer as to either urban or rural. I know that when Y2K was the craze a few guys and myself made a deal with a local grocery store that if it was bad we would provide security in exchange for needed supplies (hey, we hunted with the owner and he knew us). Thank the Lord it did not come to that though. Y2K was a bad time as I was newly married and we just found out the wife had a brain tumor, meds, etc made bugging out not possible. Now, give me a bottle of the good stuff and I have my "zombie" tools ready!

Back the truck into the local Wal-Mart through the garden dept. There are less pipe / concrete ballards that would stop your vehicle from hitting the doors and that department is directly next to the pet department. It is also on the opposite side of the store from the grocery & clothing areas so there will likely less looters there. At that point I would load up on the big bags of Old Roy dry food (cheap meat & fat protiens that don't go bad quickly) and any canned foods that might be around. Sice the sporting goods department is also right there about 5 isles up I would hit that place hard as well for any ammo, arrows, clothing & firearms that I could get my hands on (even if we had to go through a few folks). There can be no mercy beyond family at the point of a cultural meltdown. Other foods (people food) could be aquired, killed, taken or grown as needed. Water & ammo aquisition would always be top priority. Once the immediate BS has been set aside, my plans for securing village after village would go into effect.

What if supplies aren't a problem? Lets say a virus of some kind wipes out 99% of the population. How would that change everyones plans? What if its not a wait it out till order is restored situation but order will never be restored?

Hank Williams, Jr........................A Country Boy Can Survive. Books will become more important for passing time and knowledge, (plus starting fires), and I will miss this board.

I often wonder if I would miss it all. If the exchange would be worth it. The security and ease of survival we enjoy now to being free of the constraints of society and the yoke of government.
