I think this may be one reason I am actually considering buying a HOG Muk. Well, I'm kind of regretting skipping the Scrap Muk, but it's another Busse with NO CHOIL. And a pretty sweet design in general.

I like a choil for full blade sharpening ease.
SYKCO JYD#112 It's better to have it & not need it, than to need it & not have it.

I like a choil for full blade sharpening ease. How does a choil help with sharpening?

you can't get all the way to the base of the edge without a choil. It basically gives you room to get all the way to the beginning of the edge. I like the full size choils but I like my SAR5 too. I do feel a lot better with a guard though.

Yep. The choil versus no-choil debate has been going on for a long time. Yep, longer than the Yard existed...

In reading posts on the old Kershaw forums, the choil was a bone of contention between Ken Onion and the Strider Team in the development of the ZT knife line. Ken does not like them and will argue against, while some strider folding knives have effectively three choils. That would have made for some interesting design meetings.
