Who's into GPS's on here? My girlfriend is smart enough to let me pick out the one I want, so that's how I know that there's a Garmin Dakota 20 under the tree for tomorrow. My local retailer was kind enough to load some Topo data and all the ATV/Snowmobile trails for the province on it for me too.

Anyone else have something like this? I'm sure there's a lot of cool stuff it can do that I'm not even aware of.

Only experience I have with one is My stepson loaned us his once for a 100 mile drive and HE put in where we were and where we wanted to go for us. You might say I am kinda GPS challanged!

I have a Garmin Etrex Vista mounted on the handle bars of my mountian bike and a Garmin Nuvi 200 in my vehicle.

I have a Garmin Oregon 550t. It's a great piece of equipment. My favorite part is that when I take pictures, it tags them with the location. This saves time over having to enter the "location".

They are great.

I have a Garmin Nuvi for my car. It has been a life saver when I am traveling.

No experience using one off road though. Sounds cool....

Garmin all the way. I haven't use them off road, but Garmin's GUI (graphical user interface) is easier to use and easier to see then other GPS such as Tom Tom.

Here is one of about 10 I have owned in the last few years http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-GPS-60CSx-Handheld-Navigator/dp/B000CSOXTO . That is not counting the ones I have in my vehicles ( NUVI-Tomton) Most folks go nuts for way too any bells and whistles. The one in link above has most everything a guy should need. Just my opinion after owning all different brands and software. enjoy your new toy !! Merry Christmas <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I got Garmin - 60CSx last Christmas and love it.
If you google free garmin topomap Canada you will come up with Ibycus (sp). It is a topo map of all of Canada, it is legal and I've used it all over BC.

Coyote,

The 60csx was my trusty companion on many, many adventures. I lost it on a hunt last year and was really bummed. I had all of my adventures and cool spots in various locations from coast to coast. It was as much of a travel journal as it was a GPS. I loved it. I replaced it with an Oregon 550t. While more advanced, it does not have the same feel as my old, trusty travel companion.

I'm learning how to use a compass, but I would never dream of traveling anywhere without a GPS. I love being able to look back at where I've been and find those surprise spots that you run into that you know would be hard to find again.

GPS's rock!

I have an older LCD GPS, and I have one in my BlackJack II cellphone.

I got a garmin 38 as a gift back in 1998 or 99 and it was un-reliable as he!!, didn't really look at them again until September of 2008 when I was moose hunting with one of my brothers. His girlfriend bought him a triton (200 I think) with a topomap of BC in it. I was amazed at how good it worked, my wife then bought me the Garmin Christmas 2008, I installed the free ibycus topo map of Canada on it (just loaded western canada) and I love it. There is no comparing the newer units to the older ones.
I don't think I will ever trust one completely and will only lok at them as a secondary navigation devices but I was amazed how well mine worked while I used it on my last two hunting trips

I should add I am oldschool when it comes to hunting or camping, still rely most on awareness of where I am and how to get back to where I was and I carry a compase and map.
I may not always know where I am at, but I do know how to get to where I will know where I am at, that is a lot different then being lost
