Very nice gifts you got MustardMan! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> I got some lovely diamond earrings this year (you know diamonds are a girls best friend! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />)

Funny, that is what I gave my wife for Christmas too.

As far as "outdoor gear" during the Christmas season, all that I got was self-purchased. Of course, there was the package of three BWMs that arrived just before Christmas.

After Christmas, I went shopping; I'd been seeking a nice, rain-resistant jacket, and found a Roundtree & Yorke (Big & Tall) "Lawrence" Jacket at Dillards. I'm not sure if I'll give up the jeans jacket I bought last year for it, but it's a much classier light coat.

I don't know why I've been fixated on tents lately; I don't camp, and don't really want to, but I wanted a good tent. I bought a cheap tent on Amazon a while back; it's a Leberna Three-Person One Touch Set Up Dome Tent. The video review shows that it's super easy to setup and I got it for $40, but it packs big and is too heavy to be considered a "backpack tent".

I wanted a good, lightweight, 2-person, 3-season backpacking tent, but wasn't willing to pay more than $200 for it. I ended up finding a new Big Agnes Seedhouse 3 (not the SL) with footprint on eBay for about $125. It's bigger than I had in mind and a couple pounds heavier, at nearly 6 pounds, but still reasonably light. It's a good tent, and the price was absolutely fantastic (less than half retail); I unpacked it and it appears new and complete -- I'm very happy with it, but as I said, I don't know why I felt such a strong urge to get one.

$50 from the wife as a combined b-day and Christmas gift, to be spent on a knife or a fountain pen (already spoken for with the Boss Streets), a gift certificate to lee valley hardware that was used to order some woodworking and chip carving tools, and the Bible on DVD.

The 'big gift' was hotel expenses paid for by my in-laws so we could spend some time with them and four other units of the wife's family in San Antonio over New Years. It was nice to seem my nine month old only son finally meet some of his relatives. One of his uncles is active army and has done two tours in Iraq and one in Germany. We last saw him at our wedding a number of years ago.

I got a Maxped wallet. I've never had a velcro wallet so it's taking a bit getting used to, but I like it.

I've got four kids, so most of our Christmas budget goes to them.

They had a blast! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
