Vic, any chance of a chop off comparing the BWM and the DFLE? I am still undecided on this knife...I rather think I have this area covered...but would be interested to know how those two perform? I'm sure I'll get around to it. But I am biased when it comes to choppers. I like the DFLE best no matter what out chops it! It is light, rugged, beautiful, and comfortable to use. What else could you want in a chopper?
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I'll stick with the DFLE any day . Matter of fact- I like all the SY LE knives the best. Maybe- with the exception of the S5LE. Then- I have a hell of a time deciding if the INFI outperforms the 101 and am doubtful about that. Or.........at least how i use them I can't see any differance

Steel Fan, do you have any idea how the Black Jack magnum camp will act as a chopper? On light stuff 1-1 1/2 inches it does ok, but have not tried it out on thicker stuff. Have been using the Beast for that. I have checked out the knife and it looks to be a good choice...it is 440C stainless and the design is by Jerry Fisk and with an 8 inch blade should be fine as a chopper...when I first joined here I posted about knives I had owned and used in the past and one which I used a lot was a Blackjack Marauder which like SY knives came with a Res C handle...here is a pic of the knife... It also was 440C steel and mine was not double edged as the one above but single with a flat spine...now that was a great chopper with a 9 inch Bolo blade and I gave it to the son of a friend who was going into our Para Regiment. I had used this for a long time...I got it after having a Khukri I picked up in the Falklands stolen off my belt webbing...and can vouch for the quality of their knives...mine came with a great razor sharp edge...and could hold it well. You should have no problem with yours....it is a good knife...

What else could you want in a chopper? Yes I agree, I love the DFLE and my Basic 9 which is slightly smaller, they are both around 16/17oz's and work so well in the light-weight catagory I am not sure I would go for the BWM if given the choice between the two as it is slightly heavier at around 22 oz's...if I want a heavier knife than the DFLE I tend to go straight for a thinned down NMFBM...which probably gets the most use of all my large choppers...that and a Hossum...both are in the 12 inch longer blade size which I prefer and the Hossum again is only 17oz's...maybe I will hang on and see if a NMBWM is done with a longer blade...it is getting to the point now where I find it hard to pick from what I have and they all work so well it gets rather confusing as to what to chose... The thing I keep telling myself though is I nearly did'nt get a CG NMFBM or a CG NMSFNO until right at the last minute and if I am honest I probably like the weight and feel of them better than many...

I have one of the made in Japan versions of the Blackjack Grunt and those handles are awesome eh, definitely one of the most comfortable handles I have ever used !!!!

Yes, their handle material is really comfortable....the similarity to the Yard's Res C is what brought me here...

Well, I feel a little silly, but just placed an order 3 more BWMs. I could be wrong, but I think there'll be a lot of demand for BWMs after they're no longer available. The economy and season have pushed people away from what amounts to a SHBM for $347 (+ shipping) who'd normally be all over it.

As high as Busses often are, I ordered another BWM, too. It may be the most expensive camp machete ever made, but as big Busses go, it is reasonable. Whatever others may think of the knife, I like it better than any Mistress I have seen or used. In keeping with the minimalist theme of the BWM, I ordered another 10" Cordura sheath for it from SYKCo. Like the DFLE before it, folks will regret not getting one of these fine choppers.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.
