As much as I like the RMD and the Camp Tramp I think you're missing the Yard's best offering if you don't try a S5LE...maybe the Infi models were weighted differently...

The INFI ones balance the same as the CG. I compared side by side and saw no noticeable difference, using the old pen under the knife measurement technique.

I find the balance of the S5LE to be just about perfect for a user knife. Now I could see how someone who doesn't use his knives could possibly form differing opinions, but I've taken that blade out and batoned with it, made fuzz sticks with it, built fires with it, trimmed hedges with it, and done pretty much everything I'd do with a 5" blade knife.

Would I EDC it? Not likely. But I wouldn't EDC ANY five inch blade I own. That role is safely held by my Vex for the time being.

Well MM if you are ever at a show which has a Vex on offer pick one up for me and I will square you away...no problem...I do like the size/steel and shape of the Vex...I think the Vex and the Bird Dog LE are two knives I would enjoy...but ideally without the secondary mark up...

I'm not sure whether they have had vex'es at recent shows, but there have definitely been a bunch of bird dogs. I think I've snagged three or four of them for various dogs in the last couple of months. I'll keep an eye open for ya, although I don't know if I will still be in ATL when Blade rolls around.

I still think all S5s are absolutely awesome <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />. But- the most USEFUL SY knives are the BDLE and the MUK IMO <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />.For a chopper the DFLE wins hands down. For an EDC...............well........one of my Spdies or a VIC. For just plain [censored] great users- try to beat a MORA or a tweaked out Tram <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />. Just mt two cents- but .......yeah........I'll take an orange mudder in just about anything. Not really impressed with an orange Res C handle like on a Reg though. maybe ? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" />

Pete - if M/M is out of Atlanta by then, I will pick up a Vex for you if it's available. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Bruce...if my picture proves the S5 is blade heavy....you don't need to work with knives...you just need to take up "Politics"....

Not a brilliant picture...but you get the idea....

[Linked Image from i343.photobucket.com]

Keeping the knife balanced and using my left hand for the camera accounts for the fuzzy quality...but my S5LE balances perfectly...

I know my S5CG balanced differently than my LE. Got rid of my CG instead of messing with it and glad I kept the S5LE.
