Andy - you'll love it! I'm glad I've got a CG so that I get that nice worn look. I'm thinking about getting another CG instead of an LE actually... Another 100 trips and my DF will look like your RM.

Originally when I got my Rats I thought maybe after there were good and worn down that I’d remove the finish and shine ‘em up. But after I earned all that coating wear, there’s no way I’m getting rid of it. It’s proof of how much of a woodsman you are. Some people use their knives, and others lock them away in safes, never even using them to open mail. Not many people have an extreamly worn crinkle coat. Those that do, treasure it with pride.

When the DFs came out, I thought that I already have several large black choppers, I’d like to have a LE. Especially an LE of the largest Dog ever out the yard. For something that I’ll keep and treasure always, it’s worth a few extra bucks for the LE. Especially when it comes with the logo! A knife that big and bad looking looks twice as cool with the logo.

Sure enough, right after I posted this thread, I was driving down the street, and...:

Good call Andy.

I hope that Dan makes another chopper variant eventually, or else I may have to start lurking on the Swamp Rat forums

Don’t just lurk, you should join us and talk too. There tends to be less small talk compared to here. It’s more Q&A, gear discussion etc.

I like small talk!

I'll probably venture over there before too long.

Any big choppers coming out soon?

Do they still use ResC?

I may have to get on the 2ndary market to find an old Basic9 or whatever that tan handled SR chopper was called... Rat Daddy?

Still haven’t heard the next model. A lot of people are hopin’ for the Ratweiler chopper. I hope it’s a ways off though so I have time to save. I haven’t seen them use Res-C since SY came out. I think it was intented to take over the Res-C handles so SR could focus on using Micarta. A Basic 9 is a Busse. The tan handled one that I think you’re thinking of is a black and tan Battle Rat (like mine). They’re through hardened instead of differential (or whatever its called) hardened. The Rat Daddy is the largest chopper ever made by SR, and looks like my RM, except it’s an inch or two longer.

Thanks Andy - I think the Rat Daddy is pretty cool looking - I really like the ResC though. I knew that the Basic9 was a Busse - but the name of the Battle Rat slipped my mind. I wasn't able to load up the SR site, so I'll try again later (is it down?)

I dunno, I was wondering the same thing. For the past couple hours, I couldn’t get it to load either.

Hmmmm....

Did some pic looking though.

How is that RM grip when chopping? Does it sting a little? You can be honest

Yeah, a little bit. Especially when you have it stuck really good and it won’t budge and you hit it really hard. Padded gloves help. There’s one thing that I like about micarta over res-c. If you get a knife stuck and can’t baton through it, you can use the baton to beat on the handle from the other direction to loosen it so you can remove it. With res-c, you have to either wrap the handle in an old towel or something, or use your foot and kick it out. If ya slip, you could loose a foot though.
