How is that RM grip when chopping? Does it sting a little? You can be honest Yeah, a little bit. Especially when you have it stuck really good and it won’t budge and you hit it really hard. Padded gloves help. There’s one thing that I like about micarta over res-c. If you get a knife stuck and can’t baton through it, you can use the baton to beat on the handle from the other direction to loosen it so you can remove it. With res-c, you have to either wrap the handle in an old towel or something, or use your foot and kick it out. If ya slip, you could loose a foot though. Funny you mention that, because I had to kick mine today I got really stuck in that first log I tried to baton through. I got another 12" or so in from where I took the picture, and just got insanely stuck and it was so thick that I only had about 1/2" of tip sticking out. Lots of kicking and grunting to get my knife back!!! Good point about handle batoning. I still need to abuse the CGFBM, that may filfil my Micarta chopping needs!!

Oh - I don't know why I didn't put this in my text today - the thumb ramp on the DF really protects the handle while batoning on the handle side, as I did some of today. Good stuff
I've officially decided to take the CGFBM with the Dogfather on the next chopping extravaganza... maybe on Easter

Good thing you got it out! I could just picture a 10 foot log sticking out the window of you explorer as you drive home to retrieve your knife!

She wasn't there
I got up at 06:30 and was home w/ breakfast by 08:30. They ate it around 10:00 or so after I was already at the damascus shop. I'm such a good guy! (riiiight).
Did you notice my post at the top of the page CO?

Nope to both. Haven't had it out. Every time I go out I grab the DF. Might has something to do with its home beside the door. I have a couple of days off and if it gets above freezing i may take it out..

Yeah. Waiting on my Okuden sheath for the CGFBM too. That will probably help a little more.

I don't feel like shipping it though, I don't trust the postal system enough (I was sweating bullets for 2 weeks waiting for it to get here from Up North!!)
