Hey dogs, I've been lurking for some time now. Been going nuts trying to get my avatar pic to stick. All of your posts have been educational and entertaining. I have about 50 knives in my collection now, but my only Scrapyard knife is the Scrapper 5. Can't wait for the Regulator and looking for a Scrap Muk. The Sc5 is my EDC when working in crummy parts of town (no guns at work) .
Anyway,...My question is , would it not be usefull to have lower cost, training versions of these knives made available. I am a new student of Kali, a Filipino Martial art,and would like to practice with safe versions of my Sc5 and Regulator It would be just too Cool to practice training moves with a Scrapyard that feels the same as a the real thing.
Thanks to all of you guys for my new addiction that has helped to reduce my black rifle disease.

Welcome to the board Hooker.

Are you talking about plastic knives?

Welcome to the Yard Hooker. Scrapyard knives are great tools.

I picked up an Endura trainer a few years ago for some edged weapon folder specific training I did for a course. After evaluating it and then taking more training I now make my trainers out of aluminum or wood in some cases. I just round off all of the edges and use that. The only real tough thing is the handle, duct tape works though. Aluminum is nice because my sheaths still function so I keep some consistency there.

Welcom to the Yard Hooker,
Filipino Martial arts eh? sounds way cool.
Now when you say "training knives" do you want all wood? or aluminum? or steel?

I have a wooden Tanto now but have ordered a couple of trainers from keen edge knives. they are aluminum with para cord handles. I'm thinking the best would be an Un sharpened, dull pointed, non heat treated(lower cost) version of my favorite Scrap Yard would be the coolist. They would be easy to introduce along side the regular knives. Same handle, simular weights, same sheath, etc.

Welcome, Hooker!

Good luck with the Kali! I have a friend that is a martial arts nut who I believe is now in some Special Forces unit. He showed me a buddy of mine a bit of Kali, and man, that stuff can be brutal! I'd like to take up some sort of martial art, especially that Filipino kind, but around where I go to school, there isn't much.

What's wrong with the black rifle disease? I don't have the funds to suffer from that one!

Aluminum bar stock is relatively easy to come by. Even if you don't have a jig saw, you could cut aluminum using a hacksaw. A file and/or some sandpaper and there you have it. Drilling through aluminum is easy. I would encourage you to make your own and experiment. It's also a great excuse to buy tools, not that I need an excuse to buy tools or anything... Just saying....

Welcome Hooker.
You're going to have to make your own trainers or have a machine shop make them for you.Or you might try contacting SYKCO and see if you can get a scrap blade.Something that was messed up during heat treating or grinding perhaps.
Good luck.
