Honestly, if the heat gun trick will work i dont see it as too big a deal. It just seems silly that, as a whole everyones agreed that the guard needed to be either removed or reinforced. Dont know why why this was left alone and that the choil was redesigned.
Im sure the new choil is much more comfortable but how many people complained about it before? and THATS what was altered and not the guard.

The choil was one of the issues I mentioned in my initial report to Dan. It wasn't one of my major complaints, but I did notice it wasn't great, and think the new choil will work a lot better.

I "fixed" my guard with gorilla glue. It's ugly, but kept it from falling apart any more than it already has, so it's good enough for now. When it gets torn up again, I might try cutting it off, or I might send it in for a new handle, or far more likely, I will figure out a way to put a proper guard on it.

just seems like most people were fairly adamant about the guard not being up to par. At least from what i remember i read ALOT more about the guard and cant recall much complaints about the choil so much

I was looking forward to seeing a metal guard on there, I would be worried about water getting in though breaks in the res-c and rusting the hell out of the steel

I would have liked to see something done with the guard as mine got chewed up a bit too. But I think the guard was comfortable and worked well preventing my hand slipping past while stabbing.

The choil on the other hand scared me everytime I used it.

the coating only protects so much, and you can get rust through the coating

It needs to be set up like the Swamp Rat Battle Guard. Then it would be just about perfect IMO.

Never had a problem with water and rust with other SYKCO handles, don't expect any with the Regulator either.

coating serve 2 purposes, to protect the metal to a certain extent, and to lower costs for the knife maker because they don't have to finish the blades 100%

I was just saying that if you have cracks and holes in the res-c, water can get trapped in there, could be tough to get out
