I had a Battle Guard, people hated them, go read about it, lots of people disliked the design. Personally, I prefered it to my Battle Rat. The BG also had a full height flat grind instead of a saber grind.
Either way these knives will be good guys. Also, a non intergal guard will be the first thing to fail. So if the knives have nothing more than a rubber guard that is fine by me. There are alot of other great SYKC blades without guards and no one ever barked before...

Based on what happened in the poll, it might not be a good idea to dig to deeply into the guard issue here. If you want to see what the Dogs think, the poll is still on the front page. And although the mods have locked the thread (for good reason I might add), people who have not voted may continue to do so. Good point, one locked thread is enough! It's a cool knife whatever, I'd just prefer a bit of steel (S6 etc style in front of the res-C). Thanks for the email Bruce!

It's Friday and SYKCO is closed.
But here is hoping Dan releases the Regulator specs today.

So if the knives have nothing more than a rubber guard that is fine by me. You're not alone. It's also fine with 3 out of 10 people who voted other than "no opinion" in a recent poll. The remaining 7 out of 10, however, disagree. For them a reinforced guard is either mandatory (i.e., they won't buy the knife without it) or important enough to pay more money for if necessary. So while I respect your opinion, you're clearly in the minority. This is just my opinion, but I think the one piece molded handle with guards serves its intended purpose: To keep fingers off the blade in a thrust. No, it is problably not a good idea to beat on the guard with a big stick. That doesn't help traditional brass guards much either. If you want a knife with a double guard that you can beat on, I suggest saving your money for the new the Busse Team Gemini 7 knife.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

The point is, Vic, the guard has been damaged by people who are NOT beating on the guard directly. Mine got seriously messed up while batoning without me ever striking the guard or handle directly, just by making contact with the log I was splitting. The guard on the SoD, while still made of res-c, has a bit of metal in front of it, to prevent the object you're cutting from digging into the guard, and it works perfectly. All the Regulator would need is something similar, and it would work fine.

I had just purchased the SOD LE before going to Blade. As much as I liked the Regulator, I felt that the SOD was better for my purposes. I still see the Regulator as a fighter, not a camp knife, even though it apparently chops and splits wood quite well.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Just SCREAMS fighter, doesn't it? And how many well-made fighters have you encountered that contain rubber guards? I've got a few fighters, myself. And I'll be darned if I can find even one that has a rubber guard. The Condor Jungle Bowie, Cold Steel Peace Keeper, Cold Steel ODA and UWK, and the CS sub hilt fighter that was used to stab a cape buffalo to death all come to mind. Then there was the Kraton handled SOG Tigershark. Old school fighters had brass or steel guards that were often even less durable than the Regulator and other molded handles with guards.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.
