SR77 ( It should be SY77 ) is S7 high impact tool steel. I'd like to see what it will do in a small blade, But I think its best role will be a BIG chopper. It may just top INFI as a chopper.

I guarantee it would. I'd bet $$ on it. And that's a very good point about the name of the steel... i never even thought about that. vary perspecacious of you there, Tbaugh7...

If they are going to make a bowie I would like to see a 3/16" thick or less version and it would definatly need micarta scale. The reason I want thinner rather than thicker is simple; My BK 9 I owned would outchop my RatRaddy,RW and my FSH because of its thinner profile. The steel was no where near as good as INFI or SR 101 and there handle material sucked but I sure miss the ease of chopping it provided.
Any chance of a special run thin bowie with micarta :-)

After careful reconsideration I have decided I want the texas fly swatter:

I am a little behind reading the posts, but I am curious, where did the picture of the "Texas Fly Swatter" come from?

Squirrel, with all due respect, has the rabies worked its way to your brain? just kidding, but really, if you want a 3/16" bowie with micarta scales, you could just get a Becker BK9 and order the factory micarta scales from Becker... just a thought, i'm not trying to be sarcastic or anything, it just seems like what you are looking for already exists. Again no offence meant at the rabies thing...

What do you think, Patti -- could the Fly Swatter serve as a template for the design of the new SYKW mega-bowie?

No offense taken. The problem lies in the type of steel I would like to see used in my 3/16 in blade. Infi , or S7 from what I have read about it, would make a much better steel in a chopper than would the 0170-6c is used in the BK9.

ah- gotcha -- like the notion that with a tougher steel you can run the edge thinner for less cutting resistance at the same strength type of thing?

Exactly, read cliff stamps review on the BK9, there is very little flex in that blade but I like the thickness because of less resistance.
