The Regulator, at least TT, would make a great hog knife. Well at least for fighting one off!

Seriously!

My wife says I am cray for going after a hog with a knife.

Dogs do help. I prefer a .45-70 or .308!

If you plan on using (real living) dogs for taking on a boar, plan on losing at least one of your (real living) dogs. If you plan on using a (knife) dog for taking one on, I say you are simply badarse and insane at the same time.

Yep, wild hogs are hard on dogs.

To me it's never been worth the sacrifice of a dog to say "look at this cool way I killed a boar." There are ways you can take the same critter down without having to kill man's best friend! Sorry, but I can't agree with or respect the choice to let a great animal like a dog die simply so people can be amused.

I understand. Why do you think I prefer a .45-70 or .308.

.308 is my choice! Being that I don't have a .45-70 but I've got a great 308 bolt action

I have killed just about everything in north america with a gun. I am looking for a little more excitement. The pigs here are not the wild russian boars. There are very few dog injuries and almost never any deaths here in florida.
The guide I am using has been in buisness for five years and never had a dog killed.

Infact the only deaths of dogs you hear about here are guys trying to shoot the pigs with pistols and accidently hitting the dogs

I've seen a special in Hawaii where the same occurred, a pack of dogs surrounded a hog, they didn't attack, more like stalled to have a couple guys catch up to kill it with a knife. I've also heard stories of a hog shot with +10 bullets from a .44 before going down... I def wouldn't use my dog, but it seems there are many that are trained and experienced in such a task. There's something nostalgic about that, its an old way of hunting, outdates the rifle by a longshot. Have fun!
