Hi everyone,
I just found out about SY knives recently. I would like to ask a question for some experienced knife enthusiasts out there. I am looking for a good durable knife for wilderness use, chopping, etc. I saw the Regulator. It looks like a great knife, similar in shape to the Cold Steel Recon Scout which I have also considered, but I am wondering whether I should wait for one with a drop point so the tip would be less likely to break during use. Any opinions on that? Also, I noticed SY uses mostly SR77. What are the differences in properties between SR77 and SR101?

Thanks very much for your thoughts on this.

Welcome to the yard! you definitely don't need to worry about a regulator tip. SR-101 hold an edge slightly better, rusts slightly easier, and is crazy tough but not as tough as SR-77.

SR-77 sharpens a little easier too, but both sharpen a lot easier than good stainless.

If anything happens to your tip, read the warranty. As long as you don't cut it off with bolt cutters you'll get a replacement.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, if you don't take it out and use it, it's going to rust.

Welcome to the Yard. You wont go wrong with the Regulator. Don't worry about the tip, when Dan introduced the Test Team version some people were concerned about it too. I can tell you from being on the Test Team and putting it through its paces that tip is strong!

The Regulator is my all time favorite knife, and an all purpose knife. This thing can do it all.

Get one or two or three or six! Of course one will last forever.

You also cant go wrong with any Bussekin steel.

check out knifetests.com and you can see how the different steels respond to brutal use. You have an SR-77 Scrapper 6, INFI Fusion Balle Mistress and Skinny ASH-1, and I thought they had some SR-101 on there but I don't see it. cutleryscience.com seems to not be there anymore but I read a lot over there when I first got into bussekin knives. Anybody know if that site has moved?

Get the Reg while you can,the tip won't break. These knives are made for hard use,and if it ever did break you'd get a new one under the lifetime warranty. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
GET ONE WHILE YOU CAN!!!!!

The SR101 sharpens up real nice. I was amazed what I put the Regulator through and how sharp it stayed then with a little stropping back to super sharp
