I usually don't use a pad in the hammock. But I am considering cutting down an insulated pad to cover me shoulder to mid thigh. Heard of people doing it but I have never tried it. Its hard enough getting into a sleeping bag in a hammock.

i meant on the ground. i've never put anything in my hammock, but i've never used it as my primary shelter either.
to be honest when i see all the work put into some hammocks i think you may as well bring a cot.
ever see the luxurylight cot? it's sick, but $200 is pretty steep.

I have seen some huge setups for winter camping in a hammock. It looks like a lot of of stuff and weight for the benefit. I like them for the summer light and if you have a few trees you camp sleep comfortably on a steep side slope.

Just seems like a lot of stuff to carry. I would need to be on a big snowmobile or in a vehicle to be able to carry all that.
