Got it. I had a convex edge put on my DMDC which was very sharp but I haven't ever touched it up. It's still pretty sharp I just want to try stropping it to see it that does anything or if I'll need to do something more aggressive.

An old double sided stone I stole from my dad years ago that says it requires oil of some kind.
I don't sharped my knives, but I want to learn how to some day.
I know, I suck.

everyone starts somewhere. my recommendation is to shop for some combination diamond stones and learn freehand. first just focus on following the factory bevels. when you master the control, you can put your own, thinner edges on your blades.

Found it...
It's a Norton "Yankee Clipper" sharpening stone that is double sided with "coarse and fine grit".
It says you have to use "Bear Oil".
I wouldn't know how to harvest oil from a bear even if I knew how to catch one.
I need to get a better sharpening system. Most of my blades do not have a convex edge, but the DMDC does.
Any suggestions on where to start?

you will find 6" diamond stones on the cheap in various guises (gerber, winchester, china) which will work just fine. i have course and medium of that variety. my fine diamond stone is an eze-lap, which is 600 grit.
i don't have a lansky, but i'm considering the lansky ultra fine and sapphire attachments to use freehand. i need the dimensions.

Joe, to "follow" the factory edge angle you can mark up the edge with a magic marker and just keep increasing or decreasing the angle until you are removing the magic marker and not anything else. And LISTEN TO THE SOUND IT MAKES. You can tell a lot just by the sound it makes and the way it feels when "you've got it right". It feels smoother and the sound isn't harsh but a sort of smooth swishing sound? You'll catch on. Freehand isn't really at tough as some make it sound, but it takes some practice to keep the angle constant.
Hope this helps.

I've been having some pretty intense nightmares the last couple of weeks so I'm trying to stay up until I'm reeeeally tired.
I know, it doesn't make sense.
But that's better then saying "I'm 33 years old and afraid to go to sleep!"
