2) When I had gone in to the Apple Genius Bar, during the warranty period, and made various complaints about an intermittent problem with strange screen behaviors – lines through the screen, etc., I was telling them classic symptoms of a failing GPU. They told me that they had no idea what it was, and told me to come back when I could demonstrate the problem.
At the time, I thought it was some minor software error. Then my computer died, out of warranty.
BUT, when I had brought it in for a problem, under warranty, they had failed to recognize a problem which should have been easily recognized from my description, and they failed to repair the problem. THUS, I had it on record that I had tried to get the problem repaired while it was still under warranty, and they had failed to repair it.
3) I also found out that section 9488 of California's Business Code includes: "The warranty period will be extended if the warranty repairs have not been performed due to delays caused by circumstances beyond the control of the buyer...."
4) I also learned that THE ENTIRE LINE of GPUs used in my model of computer were defective, and the CEO of the GPU manufacturer had made public statements to this effect, to the shareholders, and set aside hundreds of millions of dollars for repairs related to this issue.
5) I also learned that SEction 9844 of California's Business Code includes: " If a defect exists during the warranty period, the warranty will not expire until the defect has been fixed...."
So, armed with all of this new information, I went back to Apple, after they had initially refused to repair my computer, and demanded and forced them to fully repair my computer for free. Now I have my old computer back, essentially with all new innards. I'm using it, now.
And when my new computer arrives, I should be able to sell this old one for about $1,200.
