Jeff, I sorta wish I had went ahead and gotten the .17HMR seeins how The HS didn't cost me any cash. But I was struggling with what I would use it for. Guess I am getting more selective in my old age. PLUS by NOT spending the money for the rifle I MIGHT be able to buy a blade from Blade, IF anybody gets some to sell and they have what I want. I think now I am ready for a MP size blade but I WISH the handle was shorter. I am wanting an OAL of 7 1/2 to 7 3/4 with not more than a 3 1/2 blade and not less than 3 1/4. Oh well, I got one ALMOST like that that I like a lot but it's got a not fantastic 420HC steel and a rubber handle.

Change O subject, but finally got some 22mag ammo and fired off a couple shots in the high standard on the way to work. Got winchester 45gr bullets and man do they make a flame! At least now I got another way to make a fire!

.22 Mag is a great little round. They hit hard for a rimfire. Speaking of hitting hard....

Did you guys see the new KZ!!! Ugh. I should have waited for this improved version.

Okay, back to the subject. Where I'm from, people shoot have shot deer with .22 mags. (Native Americans can use what ever they want to take their game here on the Rez). I've always believed in using enough gun to take an animal cleanly with one well placed shot. But, they sneak up close and take 'em down with one shot...normally. I've also heard horror stories.

In any case, I think the .22 Mag is an excellent "survival" round. It can take small game easily, big game in a pinch (well placed, short range shot), little report, little to no recoil, and you can easily carry a couple hundred rounds without any problem.

The thing about it is the 17 hmr rifles will be there for a while. See what pops up from Blade, and if nothing then get the 17 hmr.

If you have a .22 Mag, the .17 HMR doesn't do much more. In fact, with proper zeroing, you really won't be able to tell the difference in drop within the maximum effective ranges of the two calibers. I've used both. I think that the .22 Mag drops the game harder than the .17 HMR especially at the close ranges. The .17 HMR's velocity makes it a bit easier to hit game at longer ranges. But, by the time it makes a difference, you are reaching the far end of the potential for both calibers.

Hey K,
Being from OK I grew up hearing many stries of deer being dropped with a .22mag and even a .22lr. The thing is it is illegal to use those calibers here butt he guys that were doing it probably did not care because they were putting meat on the table during the Great Depression.

Jeff. They are closing the 11 mile ADDITIONAL circuit. It is only open 4 months a year, April and May (ok, 1 week in august) and then again Oct and Nov. Just the normal thing. BUT, they are tearing down the old visitors center and are going to build a new one that is SUPPOSED to be finished in the summer of 2011.

So what is the deal with the new KZ? I have not been over to BF so I have no idea. I would like a kukri but held off not knowing much about them except what Ted suggested a while back.

Skunk, so the park is staying open but not the additional area--is that correct?

K, I WISH it were a Game getter, but what I traded for was a High Standard 22mag Derringer. I can carry it at work (yeah I know, mouse gun) but NO ONE will know it's in my pocket UNLESS I need it. AND here with the way the solid steel doors are made, 2 rounds fast will get me out of trouble until help arrives. Now I just gotta find something to carry it in besides bare in my pocket!
