Hey K, Being from OK I grew up hearing many stries of deer being dropped with a .22mag and even a .22lr. The thing is it is illegal to use those calibers here butt he guys that were doing it probably did not care because they were putting meat on the table during the Great Depression. Well, it's not legal here either. Unless you are an enrolled Yakama. I'm not so only use .243 and larger. The key is shot placement. The natives hunt year round, so that includes when the deer are NOT expecting to be hunted. They also hunt mainly for meat, so they don't worry about looking for antlers. AND...they can hunt when ever they want. So, they don't worry if the shot is too far, they just pass it up and wait for an easy shot. One guy I know uses a .204 Ruger for elk. No problems. It's all about placement...and bullet selection. And a bunch of other things. But, you can't kill what you can't hit, so mainly shot placement.

K, what you say makes a lot of sense. On the rez, do the residents hunt does more than bucks? I know here in OK on a couple the majority of the meat hunters rather have a doe................. I know I prefer doe meat too.

Skunk, what about one of the neoprene Uncle Mikes pocket holster? It breaks up the lines of the derringer and are inexpensive.

So what is the deal with the new KZ? I have not been over to BF so I have no idea. I would like a kukri but held off not knowing much about them except what Ted suggested a while back. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=745161

Subject change, but I have been thinking about contacting Snot Pig about building me one of my "GRAIL" knives.
3 3/8 to 3 1/2 inch blade shaped like the MP with a little more belly curve to it with a 4 1/4 inch handle. I would like the handle to be some kind of non slip material, like maybe a hidden tang covered with horse trailer or stall rubber matting. Rubbery but not all that soft but also grippy. IF it was to slick I could always "rough it up" with coarse sand paper.

I had an Uncle Mikes but didn't really like it for the Derringer. Probably because it was for another gun. I'll check out the links ya'll posted, thanks.
