rht, how long you been dispatching, I've been a Sheriff's dispatcher for 16+years now. (following 20 years in the AF).

Been here 3 years, enjoyed every minute of it.

Yeah, I still enjoy my job as well, even after all these years. Situations are ALWAYS changing. One benefit we have (at least I think so), is we have our own separate E911 dispatch. We don't have to mess with medical emergencies.

We're seperate also, at least for now. Rumors are flying that we will consolidate in 3-5 years, along with EMS/Fire and two local city depts.

How many in your dispatch center? Only two here, it's a small dept.

We only have one on at a time. We have 5 dispatchers for our 24/7. We dispatch for the Sheriff's dept, and 5 towns. The places we dispatch for (including the sheriff's office) does not have 24 hour a day coverage.

We dispatch for Sheriff's dept and three small towns. At night, we have at most 8 deputies on the road, but more often than not it's only 6. That's for about 511 square miles in the county, not counting our biggest town that has it's own police force and dispatchers.

Pretty much the same here, we have 800+ sq mi and we NEVER have more than 4 deputies on and they stagger off times from midnight to 3am. MOST nights we only have 2 on until 3 and then they all secure for the night. Our largest town (about 8000) has their own force 24/7 and another town 0f 2000 has the same. Oh, they both have their own dispatch.

Wow,and I think our guys get stretched thin. That's unreal, if you are anywhere near as busy as we are.
