Btw hey all.
So I know the under quilt is the key. But how much room does that take up?

Well, I'll try out a grand trunk then. Thank you Mag. I'll let you know when it arrives and when I use it (like the minute it gets here). Thanks again for your guidance. I appreciate the help.

i don't think the underquilt is key. i thought it was, before. now i think closed cell foam may actually be the better insulator. it has its drawbacks, but so does the underquilt.

Right now when I go outdoors my mind wife requires no less than the RV (almost). Trying to get her to realize not brushing your teeth for a week is ok.

does she require the RV, or its contents? Really the amenities. Shower and toilet are key. All I need is a camp fire.

So since I have never hammock camped. What is my space/weight savings gonna be over a tent? gonna need some details on your tent. i have a bivy tent that's half the weight of my new canvas bottom hammock. my ultra light hammock is only 10oz or so.

Well if I am tenting I like at least a two person tent. I will give up weight if I can get height to stand (again for the wife) I suppose what will two hammocks get me that a two man tent wont?

comfort is the real change, but you are losing the weight of poles, mattresses, and possibly the bottom half of your sleeping bag if you switch to quilts. this will all pack down smaller too, but i'm not really an expert on that stuff yet. i've been experimenting at home is all.
in my opinion, even if it was an increase in weight, it would be worth it for the better night's sleep.
