I always wanted to say that, but this time it really seems appropriate!

I have never taken a shot at a deer over abut 150 yards, rarely see them further then that here in BC. Yotes are a different story, doesn't take much energy to put them down, if you can hit them clean, they go down Where I deer hunt here, a 100 yd shot is rare. Fartherest I've ever shot a deer was 109 paces, most were inside 40 yards. Only time you see deer here more then 50 yards is if it is standing across a logged clearing, along a cut line or maybe across a meadow. Thats why a lot of guys hunt with a 30/30. I hunt a fair bit with a marlin in 44 mag and open sites. Here everyone talks about the 500 yard shot, but the reality is that most are less then 100 yards

Here in Oklahoma shots can be anywhere from right under you to 500 yds depending what part of the state you are hunting. NE & SE OK is wooded a lot, N &S central is a mixture and NW &SW OK is open shots most of the time. Right gun for the right environment.

I'm looking forward to my new build...the 18" platform w/ 2.5-10x should enable me to throw punches from up close and personal out to as far as I'd like. Granted, I wouldn't shoot a deer past 250'ish probably....but the Hogs are in trouble! We have a bit of land in NE Texas...there's an oil road that connects with a highline. Pig-Pipe is ~440yds off the road. I'm just gonna start walking in on the road....go prone....and start having some fun. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Monkey that is COOL! I would love to live where I could see bears out in the open like that.
