In my younger days I could flip one in each hand at the same time.

I still get mine out every now and then, but I couldn't carry it all the time now. Just too used to carrying a fixed blade these days.

I was doing good to keep it going just working one at a time.

Hehe, My very first Butterfly was a cheapie hand made one I bought when I was in the Philippines. Didn't last very long but boy would it hold and edge! It cut the fingers WAY to easy before I learned about safe handle side.

I'm lucky, I guess. Never got cut with one, I learned really quick about the safe side. A buddy flipped one open on the not so safe side right in front of me. He had the knife all of 5 minutes, and took about 25 stitches from it.

I'm not as fast with one as I used to be and I MAKE SURE I am holding it the right way before I start getting all west side with it.

Some folks are coming out with ultra light weight handles now. Personally I like a little handle weight. The BM's, at least mine, are somewhat heavy. BUT they do give you confidence in them.

My son wanted to learn, I hid mine from him so he wouldn't get cut. Thought about taping the edge but instead I just put it in my sock drawer.

you could dull it...i mean if its not being used, once he's older and you can trust him you can put the edge back on there?

im only 21 and have no kids, but it seems like its not a bad idea...idk how old he is but you can restrict it to @ home only

OR, get a dummy (practice) model with an aluminum blade. Blade approximates the size and weight of the real knife but the edge is flat and pretty thick.
