It would be a great step backwards to go old school. Combatives is so much better than what they were teaching in the 80's. I was a bit of a fighter in my youth and laughed pretty hard at the Army's close combat training. Combatives/ MMA is a much better training program. Especially since most kids these days have never taken a punch before.

I've heard that, a display of a big knife, or even an M9 sidearm is like magic, one moment the individual is loud, then the next he starts acting right and being respectful. I guess they're not afraid of the M4, but that little 9mm scares the crap out of them.

If it wasn't for the Army combatives we did in Basic, I probably wouldn't know how to handle a ground fight. It also got me into MMA, and I found a local place to work out and train at, has a cage and everything. 100 bucks a month, but if it ends up saving my life, it'd be completely worth it.
