I am with Gravelface on this one. I would like to see Dan make a higher percentage of the LE models than the CG versions. That way the collectors and daytraders can subsidize the users a bit.

I am sure they will, but at least Dan will get a better percent of profit. If people are willing to pay 2x the price Dan should charge at least 50% more. The after market will do what it does best...rip off people. So Dan should make a few extra dollars off of it.

I don't understand what you're saying. When people in the secondary market charge twice the retail price because people are willing to pay it, it's a rip off, but if Dan were to double his retail price(Well, not double it. 50% markup, as you've postulated. Same idea, though) because people were willing to pay it, it's a sooooper idea. Why don't you just send him a tip?

It all comes down to that I hate the People that buy 10+ copies of a blade in order to flip it right away for a profit to the same people they call "friend"......"Oh you missed out on it...well I happen to have a spare and you can have it for $90 for than I paid 2 days ago!" I feel Dan should o get in on this and charge a bit more. Buying extras isn't the problem.....I know a few folks do this to help cover the people who are at work or away while the knives are released and then offer them at a minimal markup....5 plus shipping.

Just because people are willing to pay it doesn't make it a good idea. If people want to play these games they should play the stock market.

My tip wouldn't cover what I think he deserves. Not only for creating affordable knives for those quick enough to get them while he has them to offer, but for creating this great forum, and when I see people charging outragous fees for knives that are still in the cardboard sheath, I feel Dan should get a bit more....I know running this place isn't free, maybe he could give a bonus to his employees or start making some of that Gear we all want......if he would charge more these things may be possible....we all know his blades will sell for whatever price these scoundrels place on them.

If I understand you correctly, StabbyJoe, you're questioning the idea that it's a rip off if day traders charge more than they should on the secondary market but it's not a rip off if Dan charges more than HE should. That's a pretty darn good question if you ask me.

Something like that. "Should" might be better off exchanged for "could." Price of sale is going to be an agreement between supplier and consumer in all but the rarest instances.

And shouldn't everyone be able to get a New Blade at Dan's price. Older blades that have been off the market for a while...sure, I get that. But this.....this just pisses me off.

And ripping off Dogs on a tighter budget doesn't have a down side?!

You realize that some people actually sell knives for a living, right? I understand what you're saying. You resent the effect that scarcity has on pricing and the difference between a pure collector and an entrepreneur.

Well, unless Dan does it. Right?(This was exactly my point before. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />)

And raising initial retail prices would neither make the knives more available to collectors nor prevent markups in the secondary market. So why aren't you giving him "a bit more?"

Well, not if Dan does it, right?

Sure! That would be awesome. Unfortunately, as I understand it these knives are limited mainly due to the supply of material as opposed to an artificially limited production run. If production was not so limited, everyone could get one at Dan's price. It is, so they can't.
