I was figuring a 4-5 days out to Yellowstone, 3-4 days or so there, then a week transit to Yosemite, 3-4 days there then home to NC. I don't know if that's realistic or not, but that was the original plan

I'm afraid I would be wanting to stop every 1/4 mile for photos and just kill my time like that. On the other hand, when I start to go somewhere, I get tunnel vision and just want to get there no matter what.
