It says to me that he's contemplating suicide (due to a haircut gone horribly wrong – just kidding).

He's a Jarhead, his haircut is perfect.

Ok guys, I think I may be a bit confused here. Are you talking about the PRINTED paper being outmoded, but the electronic ones are the rising tide?

If you could do a collage of anger, fear, frustration, dispare, apathy, agony etc, it might get the point across for PTSD. It would be hard to put a single face on PTSD since it manifests itself in many ways.

I have to point out that, when I study the picture a bit more, it seems like the noose is dangling too low off the ground for someone to hang.

I never, or at least first thought of suicide. My thoughts were they put him in a room where he could see the noose and contempate what he had done in his life to land him there.

Well, yes and no, Skunk. The entire business model for papers is broken not just the printed editions. All papers have online version but fail to monetize them effectively. It is very difficult when Yahoo, Google etc.. have news aggregates that let people read the headlines and leads to all the news from all the different organizations. Very few people go to nytimes.com washingtonpost.com to get all their news. Back in the day, people got one or two papers and that is all they needed or wanted. Now they can see what is being created by all the organizations in one place - Google news or Yahoo news. Neither of these search engines are paying the reporters or the editorial staff, yet have successfully been monetizing the content created by someone else.

I agree the noose is a little low, but that isn't the final product, just a concept.

Yes, but, in addition, the newspaper industry missed their chance to adapt. They no longer have the money or power to do so. The world has moved on, without them. And, while there are newer technologies, they're not in the hands of those who are prepared to seriously handle news. There's no one amongst the new electronic transition who does an adequate job with serious investigative journalism, nor access, nor with decent editorial standards, nor with responsibility, etc.

Here's a quick preliminary sketch I did last night for the next cover of Marines Magazine. It will be the Korean War anniversary edition. I think I am going to move forward with this idea but will probably do it in graphite instead of charcoal.

Ok, now I better understand. Didn't think of Google or Yahoo news "pages". I just go to our local papers and USA today and at times the Jerusalem post.
