I think the Hog Sticker machetes are only 2.5 mm thick. They are not likely to perform as well as the carbon steel models from Tramontina and Ontario. If I were you, I'd wait until May when CS will have their Bowie, Spear point, and barong machetes in 1055 steel. They have the polypropylene handles, too, and they are 3 mm thick. Their sheaths are not as nice. I hope that makes a difference. I was all set to buy one of their kukris(no, it wasn't one of the 2 nice ones they make) until I picked it up. I don't want to buy one I could bend in half without even using my knee.

I don't want to buy one I could bend in half without even using my knee. Their kukri machetes work, though. The 1055 steel takes and holds a good edge. For chopping the lighter stuff, they are about as good as any machetes I have used. I am not crazy about the feel of the polypro handles, though. We are talking about inexpensive work tools. Machetes are usually stamped steel.

Polypropylene. It is a slick, rubbery plastic. It does not have the nice grippy feel of Kraton, Respirene C, or Santophrene. It had many uses, including long johns.

I have wanted a few Cold Steel Products for awhile...never really seem to fit in to the grand plan of things though.....one of those 5/16ths Kukris, and a Trail Master..I watch the solid proof video just to watch those blades in action! Might be able to find one in Kentucky this weekend......

Joe, if all you want is a heavy working kukri, get a Gurkha from Windlass. Find somebody with a good belt grinder to put an edge on it and you're set. Atlanta Cutlery has them for about $40 last time I checked. I am hoping SYKCO will eventually make a kukri of SR77.

Well, Most of my knives are similar to my coach gun, meaning I have no real use for any of them. They are just cool toys. I've looked at the Kabar kukri in that $40 price range.

I completely forgot about theirs. I got one of their cutlass choppers and it really performed. I traded it off, but it was a great handle and good steel to boot. Even the sheath was ok.
