I can't drag an SLR into the field with me most of the time. I do when my wife is around as she doesn't step out the door without at least one camera.

I use a simple PS camera to photo interesting things I run across. ANd I am apparently rough on cameras when i am not specifically out to shoot photos. The camera usually gets thrown in a cargo pocket of a pack. The 8010 and W90 are waterproof, dust proof, Cold, Heat and shock resistant. the W90 has a bit of rubber armor and both cameras have a lense that will not extend past a glass plate to keep dust and water out.

Its a big compromise but it works for me most of the time.

You don't need a DSLR to get a good shot.

You do need a camera that isn't broken.

Mike thank you for asking, Patty is pretty much the same, don't get sick as much as she was but she had an episode today. Nothing major (to us now) just dry heaves for about 10 minutes. Her Mom, other than driving us NUTS is doing ok. When her eyes open in the morning so does her mouth and it does not close at night until her eyes do! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

My only gripe about point and shoots is that you can't manually change anything. SO I can see something that would be really cool with a differnt shutter speed or by changing a white balance etc. Doesn't happen.

I do end up with some decent shots. The cheap one I ordered is 10 MP so it should be ok. Pentax is generally known for decent lense quality.

MB, don't know about Pentax digitals, but I had a 35mm Pentax that was GREAT! Both the camera body and the lenses. Course this was WAAAAAAAY back in 1972-80!

I learned how to take photos on a Pentax K-100. I have several nice pentax 35mm SLR cameras. Great cams. The wife now has a nice Cannon DSLR and rarely breaks out the film.

I hate to spend a ton of money on a camera for me. My wife was a photographer and she has some nice equipment. She does some impressive work. I get lucky once in a while.

But I do run into some crazy things and I really missed chances at some incredible shots because I didn't carry a camera.

Time for me to go to bed. Maybe I can sleep in in the morning.
