I have 3 LC's, but my favorite is the little 20 gauge I was talking about earlier. Still locks up solid after all these years, matter of fact all 3 do.

Todd, that is so cool. You mentioned that your grandad was a furniture maker. Are you in the area of NC that does a lot of furniture making? I have heard NC was a hub for furniture in the 18th and 19th century.

It used to be the center of the furniture making universe. NAFTA took care of that. Now it's vacant buildings and 13% unemployment, and what jobs are there are minimum wage stuff.

My granddad worked for Drexel Heritage for 50 years, started when he was 15 years old. He took pride in what he did, and he made some beautiful furniture. My dad's house is filled with handmade one-off items Granddad made for shows and whatnot.
Nothing can compare to the work of a craftsman, your dad is very lucky

I am not big in the shotgun world. I sold my Stoger P350 the other day after I traded into a Remington 1100--love how it shoots. My brother and I have been looking at the local sidexsides and I hear that LC Smith is the good ones. Educate me a bit. Why a sxs over a o/u.

Mind you that dove and orange clays will be the most as quail are almost non-existent here.

Todd, thanks for sharing that. I have heard of Drexel before, I would love to see some of those pieces. In the near future I am going to take pics of some things my Papa made out of wood and post them up. He was a wood carver and people from all over wanted his carvings. He and I carved some shoes for a state fair when I was in elementary school---------I took 2nd place and he took 1st place in folk art division.
I would love to see some pics

My shotgun experience is very limited, I was only into waterfowl hunting for a few years.
I will say for myself, I just found the sxs to naturally come to shoulder and point better then anything else.
I may have found the perfect shotgun for myself when I bought that LC Smith, but didn't realize it until it was gone

We all worked at Drexel Heritage, it was the biggest employer in the county at one time. They had 7 or 8 factories. The whole family worked there at one point, my parents both retired from Drexel, as did my paternal grandparents. I worked in the finishing room for a couple years, then left to go into machining.

My brother has a cut down Stevens 311 that is kinda fun to mess with. We have been thinking and looking at the sxs but they are few and far between here. The older ones that we do find is crazy worn out and expensive as all get out.

All personal preference. I love the way a sxs feels on the shoulder, and the way you look down the barrels. I've shot lots of old doubles, and the Smith was always the best feeling to me.

I shoot skeet with it some, but there aren't any quail left around here. Don't rabbit hunt anymore either, no place left for dogs to run free.

Sounds like NC is about like OK when it comes to the quail. Rabbit, never hunted the much but have taken a lot of them.
