I know all the commanders here in Stuttgart (EUCOM, AFRICOM, MARFORAF/EUR, SOCEUR) on a first name basis. Theirs and mine. I pretend to be civilian. Never wear uniforms and have relaxed grooming standards. I'm like an undercover reporter.

I call the Supreme Allied Commander by his first name and it feels weird every time.
