Toney, being solar/battery powered I would think it would have to be quartz. Personally I don't like electric watches. Self-winding or manual for me.

These new Casio quartz movements are top of the line though. They have an individual "motor" for each hand. Not one gear in the entire watch. The only moving parts are the hands and their shafts. They haven;t been out for very long, but I am willing to bet time will prove they have staying power.

Naturally I would like to have the standard submariner rolex band, but If I could find one that looks like it/would fit, I wouldn't loose any sleep over it.

Wikipedia entry for automatic quartz Such movements aim to provide the advantages of quartz without the environmental impact of batteries.

I'm not dissing the QUARTZ movement/accuracy or anything, just don't like the aspect of having to replace a battery. MAYBE if it was totally solar/light powered, I wouldn't mind so much.

I have had a solar powered casio for 15 years and haven't had to replace a battery. I promise a winding watch will need maintenance before mine does. They don't use batteries. They use capacitors. When is the last time you heard of a capacitor needed replacement?

Wait a sec. It's a Quartz watch and isn't powered by electricity? NOW I'M REALLY confused.

Yes you are. It is powered by electricity. However, the fact that is automatically recharges via solar power makes it an automatic quartz.
