But the tax cut expires soon!

That is what my text book says here... are we talking about the estate tax? I know nothing about this area of the law - as in, I'm 20 pages in to "learning" about it - but they mentioned that the tax breaks get better and better from '01-'11 - and then they go away?

Yes, Bush implemented a break on the estate tax. It expires soon. If you read the WallStreetJournal, you can find some articles indicating that some families would be better off actually having their senior members die off prior to 2011, lol.

ugh don't remind me of tax class.

I took a whole semester of Tax - but I can't remember enough of it a year later to navigate the basics of estate and gift taxes.

I may have missed it...but what type of law do you want to practice?

Ain't it terrible!

I might have missed it if you answered - but are you an attorney (or CPA or something)?

I am so looking forward to getting out of debt accumulation mode... I've been racing through school as quickly as possible!

You guys are funny.

I'm a strong believer that "doing" is such a better learning tool than "school". Granted, I'm also a advocate in getting education to give you the opportunity to learn how it's really done.

I'm hoping to get a position with a very small firm (should find out in a week or two) - the primary practice is in property and wills/probate. Unfortunately, tax is going to be a huge part of my practice, even if only incidentally!

I just remember my head exploding when talking about the double declining method of capitalizing assets...

Nope...I'm just an engineer with a flare of business interest. My current career is all intellectual property licensing though...so I end up dealing with alot of deal structures (with interesting economics) and patents (both prosecution and litigation). So, I get it from all sides...and help mediate towards solutions to get products in the market above all else.

Seeing as I had virtually no math in my undergrad, Tax blows my mind!

Nice!

I'm a law student who is in waaaaay over his head, but has managed to breeze through school and keep a 3.3 GPA while putting in minimal effort (aside from cramming for finals, which I put a lot of work in to!)

All I can say for sure, is that aside from being broke - law school has been a cakewalk compared to the Army. And, without the GI Bill, I couldn't have afforded to go back to school.
