Well, given the roughly 400 registered users on this site and the untold numbers of unregistered users who buy through the store, having 1 grumpy one isn't all that bad!

Oh well!

I guess I will go back to my cutting saplings! Of course had anyone ever asked me, this is MY way of testing these knives BEFORE I bring them to Kenya and other places and trust my life with them. It's not like I am in the woods everyday cutting trees. I try them out like this a few times to make sure they can hold up to the real abuse they are about to endure. Also it is just [censored] cool to see what they can do. Because if the knife breaks I can have it replaced. If I am isolated and in the field, I am screwed! By everyone abusing their knives the way that we have, we know EXACTLY what they are capable of!

I guess my using them in the African bush is not real use. Or the rest of us who are/were in the military and use a knife from doing chores to cutting throats.

He must have some purpose or directive from God himself. I wonder what his idea is when it comes to "really using his knife". Something like opening boxes or cutting string. He must be a real mountain man as he is never around the internet. No outlet in the woods. Now if you live in the country I can see where use of a knife would be an everyday occurrence. But for me, right now.....in my office.....I just opened my paycheck with a letter opener. The DM would be overkill.

You know it is said that we must always practice using our skills and tools so that we are ready when the real $H%T hits the fan. Now I live in a city and I know they would not like it if I were to walk down the street with a knife hanging on my belt, so no I can't EDC my knives. Only in the woods can I test them until they are put to REAL use. But until I can go camping or back to Kenya or to the Amazon as I am supposed to do, I will use my letter opener.

Dan, I wish you could come do a dig in the Indian mounds here in the Altamaha. I was on the river last evening just at sunset, drinking beer and watching eagles. Of course, that is not as exciting as Kenya or the Amazon, but it sure is beautiful.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Vic, That sounds just like heaven to me!!! It does not have to be Kenya.

Well Dan,
He said he wanted a rugged knife to split the pelvis of a deer or hog! This fellow's implication that his time was so valuable that he did not have time to sit in front of a computer and that those who do chat here were in some way not up to his par was laughable. The fact that those of us that do travel actively and have extremely tight and busy schedules (which involves extensive use of our blades in extreme circumstances), choose to spend some or all of their extra time on this forum, says alot about the forum and the people in it. We all choose to utilize our time in ways that reward us.

I also vented just a bit in my earlier post. It amazes me that the simple concept of mutual respect and courtesy are looked at as weakness by some people.

Congrats to the Dogs!

You guys showed a lot of restraint, keeping it polite and lighthearted. I have lurked and decided to not participate in a couple of other forums because of the stuff that gets slung back and forth. Email is kind of like driving, people do or say stuff they would never do in person, but when behind the wheel-look out! The same thing happens with email.

Wow, I guess I got lucky. I saw a link for SYKCO on BF and came to the site in December, saw the S6 and loved it, put in an order a few hours later, and had a knife in 1 week. Didn't know it was so difficult. I feel the guys pain but could've done without the rudeness. Oh well his loss, more blades for us.

it's a syndrome known as "SYKCO ABNORMAL DEFICIENCY DISORDER" or "SADD" a terrible, mood altering bug that makes people ornery, short tempered and lost!

Take care.
