I recently started on line banking. While checking my account balance this morning I noticed a huge deposit from the Social Security Administration. I mean like a year's worth of monthly benefits. I don't know if it is a mistake or what, as I have not received any information from SSA lately. It was well over double what I was expecting. Maybe it's a government bailout for Third World Grind Shop. I'm afraid to spend any of it yet. It could be another mistake. Or a trick. Or it could just be Obama money from his "stash". Think of the high old time I could have had at Blade if this had come in May. Nothing but Busse LEs and Custom Shop stuff for me! Wierd and wonderful are the ways of the US Treasury. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> That is really good news...you deserve it. My brother & sister both are getting SS disability,& thier retro checks were very large.
The longer SS takes to approve you the bigger the retro check.
Hope you get to keep it all & enjoy it.
If it is a mistake you can bet they will take it back.

The only problem with the hide or spend is the Government will find a way to get it back if they have to take your house and land if they cannot garnish wages etc. My guess is the penalties that would be imposed would far outweigh any investment gains you could make on it.
Normally getting more money then expected would be a nice thing. With the government, on the other hand, I think I would be a bit stressed out until I figured out, unequivocally, that it was not a mistake and would not be taken back.

Vic - I would go the the SSA in person and ask them to check on this. Depending on how long ago you filed, it MAY be legitimate, but it's best to check it out before touching it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> This man speaks truth...You cannot win... and it will be your fault if they made a mistake and you touched it....
