 Backpacking Water Purifiers ???

I have been looking into getting a small water purifier for backpacking. Not really sure what to look for and was wondering if anyone has an suggestions.

If you want to go go super light weight go for iodine tablets for filters I have always liked the MSR water-works or mini-works. But there are lots people liking these newer methods like the MSR MIOX or the SteriPENs http://www.rei.com/search?cat=8000&c...ageSizeRedirect

Another point for filter is see what size it filters down to. If you are out side of US (with more nasty bugs in the water) you may need a more extensive or redundant system. for example the MSR Mini-Works is .2 microns just found this, very insightful. http://www.katadyn.com/usen/water-knowledge/water-contamination/

I have a miox and a steri-pen. I like them both. The Steri-pen is faster and easier for water bottle volumes.
I've heard good things about the MSR filters.

Katadyn Hiker Pro. I got a small adapter that connects right into the hose of my Camelbak so I can filter water without even taking my pack off.
Works great.

Wow there are alot of choices. Katadyn seems to be that way to go. I read up on their Combi model that is both ceramic and carbon filter. Thx for the suggestions.

I really need something like the steri-pen. I am usually in the backwoods trout fishing and just scoop river water up to drink. I've been lucky so far, I guess, but it's never made me sick.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a steri-pen will only take care of biological contaminants, right?
So you would still need a carbon filter to take care of chemical contaminants.
