I don't know exactly how it started... or even when for sure...

All the Busse's and Swamp Rats are actually Canvas Micarta, that I've dyed. I really like the looks of the Black paper Mycarta, but I like the properties of the Canvas better, so I just dye them. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> so far I'm very happy with the results. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Yea, I know I threw in a few Double cut blades, I figured they fit in pretty well. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Nice looking family <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Looks like the KZ2 and S5 would make a nice piggyback combo. Also, how and what did you use to dye the micarta, I like it.

That's the cool thing about the Gray, it seems to wear well and the steel is basically gray underneath. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I use the same Black I use when dyeing leather black, Fiebings Professional Oil Die. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

They look really good like that. I was wondering if you would disclose a little more about the dyeing process?

Do you do it with the handle slabs on the blade, and if so, does it leave the paint on the blade alone? I have a white Waki with "black" micarta slabs, I'd love to have the slabs actually be black, instead of the gray-green they are now.

I don't take the handles off, the dye penetrates pretty quickly, so I just wipe it on and then wipe it off. It seems to wipe off the gray pretty good, any that's left is pretty minimal if at all, I'm not sure about the white though, it might leave a little behind, but a little rubbing alcohol would probably remove that. It's hard to say for sure though... If your careful, it can be applied with a Q-tip, and just don't go all the way to the White, or try applying a little to the white in an inconspicuous place, then wipe it off and see how it does.

BTW, the process is pretty messy, you'll have stained hands for a couple of days if your not careful, unless you wear some surgical gloves. I'm used to having stained hands so I don't even worry about it any more... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Here's a before and after of my stained Waki...

I need to stain the AK too, just haven't gotten around to it yet. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />
