Welcome Back ST. Hey bud...are you still going to go through with the Monday interview, or did you land the job you wanted the most?
I got the better of the two.
The pay is better and the rail job was only gonna be short term.

I may have missed it...but which did you end up getting? You sound pretty happy about it...and that's always a blessing!

It's a "Prodution Supervisor" at Spotless Uniform.
They rent out uniforms, entrance mats and replenish janitorial supplies.
I will be in charge of the production floor, delivery route schedule, supply stock and hiring/firing.
It's a great opportunity for me.

Yeah, get's rowdy down here

Quick story about hotels and traveling. When my wife and I were moving back to Texas from Florida....we stopped in Louisiana (I think Lafayette) to catch some sleep. That night, I came the closest I have ever been to discharging my firearm in self defense.

The room had one of those connecting doors to the other room, but with a bolt lock and the little "sliding" locks (forget what they're called). Well, I was hard asleep...and my wife started screaming for me to wake up. I looked up, and an arm was reaching for the sliding lock. I pulled up the G19....flipped on the blinding surefire....and started yelling at the top of my lungs "back down now....we are armed, do not enter this room without permission!" I just kept repeating it and the guy finally stopped reaching for the lock, and looked through the slit in the door (already open and the chain was holding the door closed). He noticed I wasn't bullshitting and shortly closed the door again. I went and locked it down again.

Needless to say....we didn't sleep all that well Next morning, we noticed the adjorning room was full of bandana wearing thugs and what looked to be whores. I guess they were all hyped up and looking for additional space to party....but they almost ended up on the wrong end of some hot Texas lead. Wife and I got out around 6am....didn't worry about the cops or anything to draw attention....just hauled butt.

Sounds awesome ST! Do you have experience managing a team? I have never really had the opportunity...and hope to some day! I only manage interns that work for me, but it's not the same because it's never long term (maybe 1.5 years at the most).

So, would like to solicit ideas from the Yard regarding a backyard project.

My dead tree:

I'm thinking about cutting it off about 1.5-2.5 feet from the ground (or appropriate table height, whatever that is....I'll figure that part out easy enough). Then making either a wood top for it, or putting something like a wood / iron top together, or possibly even having a concrete or stone top made for it....to be used as a backyard picnic table. I could mount it to the Oak stump, for support.

Now...chairs: was thinking about either a) cutting chunks of the trees that are dead as seats (just big round cylinders), or b) finding a place to purchase large flat stones from (of correct thickness) and placing them around the table.

Any creative ideas out there regarding any of this?

I managed a small crew at a planer mill for three yrs about 5 yrs ago.
This is a bigger team but I think I can handle it. I am certainly up for the challenge. That is one joy of work for me, I LIKE to be challenged!!!! Physically or mentally!!! Helps to teach you what you got and where your limits are.
I have never hired or fired but I have sat in on interviews (and been through more than enough) and when I was at the mill I was a secondary team member for a few firings.
Not a great feeling to fire someone but if they aren't working out at the job then it's necessary.
