Never really pushed for JYD. Been here for 14 months, maybe I'll make a goal for September.

Hey Todd. Not sure if you remember the hurricane in late '98. I can't remember the name of it. It was my first. I was a Private First Class and it was at night in the barracks. The doors at the end of the hallways leading to the outside stairways did not have locks. There was a Marine posted at each door to keep it closed. I probably weighed 155 lbs at the time. I had a leather strap wrapped around my wrist and the door handle. At one point the door flew open and I was cracked like a bull whip. It took me about fifteen minutes to get it closed. Welcome to the south!

I saw a few possums when I was a kid in California. They were not much bigger than ground squirrels. Out here they are the size of a family dog!

The only things in California I was afraid of were mountain lions, black bears, rattle snakes, and maybe skunks. Well, I guess that's plenty.

I miss cold weather, mountains, and snow. And that San Joauquin fog.

I say that I miss the fog. The smog in the valley was horrible. We had property where we raised cattle in the coastal mountains. You could look across the San Joaquin Valley (about sixty miles) and see the Sierra Nevadas, and not see the valley floor due to the smog.

Don't remember that one, probably didn't get this far west. But I've been pulled out the door trying to close it before, just like that!

Only thing around here I'm afraid of are snakes and bees. Allergic to bees and the snakes, well, I just don't care for them.

Ranching cattle was the hardest work I've ever done. It wasn't the working of the cattle, it was having to fix fences in areas where mules were unable to carry us and our tools and materials. I was just a kid, and my dad and I would ride horses to a point where the horses could no longer continue. Then we would just take a roll of barbed wire and tools and work our way up or down some rediculous shale mountainside using juniper branches as fence posts.
