Well, I'm sure that everyone has heard about the shootings and Virginia Tech. Sounds like 32 dead at this point, hopefully no more.
Its unfortunate that there are lowlifes out there who are willing to take innocent lives for no reason. Its too bad that the cops didn't have a chance to kill him themselves - what a coward move - killing a bunch of kids and then offing yourself.
I'm expecting there to be a uproar from the media about assault weapons, as I'm assuming that this guy used an AR or something of the sort. I hope he wasn't prior military, but odds are good that he was.
I just ordered an M4 upper to go with my heavy barreled AR15 today, as I have a feeling that they may become a thing of the past again before too long.
Just wanted to get a little discussion going - and pay some respect to those that died today in this senseless tragedy.

This is a truly tragic event. My prayers go out to the families of those killed.
It was not an "Assault Weapon" from what I heard. He had 2 9mm semi-auto pistols and possibly body armor of some sort. VA has pretty good CCW laws but apparently most college campuses ban CCW. If just one person had been carrying this might not have had the body count that it did. The Dems will probably use this as ammo to ban "Assault Weapons" even though one was not used. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

It is indeed a sick and tragic event. How many of those who were killed were armed?

It's pretty tragic thats for sure. And I agree with rvogster that if Virginia Tech allowed CCW then this might not have been an issue.

None of those killed were armed, I'm sure. Yes, 1 person w/ a CCW could have saved many, many lives here.
I'm very suprised that he did all of this with pistols. Something tells me that he's probably got some kind of formal training - very tragic.
The Left is going to go nuts with this, I'm sure. I hope that they're able to realize that a sick and twisted individual did all of this, not a gun. In fact, had he been armed with something more substantial, it could have been much worse.

I agree with both of you - a tragic situation which will most likely "fire up" some of the anti-gun politicians. It's a shame the police didn't lock-down the entire school after the first shootings and then proceed to sweep the campus. It may have prevented some of the deaths, but I guess at this point it's not fair to second-guess until all the facts are revealed.

You don't need much training to slaughter someone who's unarmed and terrified.

You don't need much training to slaughter someone who's unarmed and terrified. Right, but thats a whole lot of killing to be done with a small cal. pistol. I'm assuming that he's either got some training, or that these were mostly execution style shootings.

So tragic, so far 33 families lost a child, I can't imagine how terrible that must be for them, my prayers and sympathies to them and the injured families too...

9mm (I'm assumming that it's a 9mm cause that's what's in the media) is nothing to sneeze at. Yeah it gets a bad rap, but with the right round it's a very capable platform. I run a nine as my daily carry piece. And I'd only run FMJ if that was all I could scrounge up. However, given todays premium self defense ammo its still got some punch.

You don't need much training to slaughter someone who's unarmed and terrified. I was a veteran when I went to college. I was armed, but nobody knew it. Some things you just learn. Schools and airports are magnets for sicko mass murderers. They know they will be unopposed. The gun control freaks like Schumer and Feinstein, and the rest of the tribe will join in demanding more "laws".
