I don't really mind the midnight to 8 shift to much but I dont' think I would enjoy the times you work. Eats up to much of the prime time of the day for getting things done and having to sleep.

I like only working 7 days out of 14, but in reality they first day off you sleep most of it. The real beauty of my schedule comes when you need to take time off, just take 24 hours and you're off 7 days in a row. I love that.

BUT 12 hour nights get long, and if you're down on your sleep you just may be in trouble. We're merging with two other 911 agencies soon, and hours probably will be changing. I can't say that I wouldn't mind working 8 hour shifts too. But that's probably a couple years down the road

When I first got to Japan (and I have probably told you this) We worked 12 hour shifts. Started working 2 12 hour midnight to noon shifts, then 2 12 hour day shifts, noon to midnight. We then went on break and came back to work on our 7th day at midnight! We did this until the General found out.

I've been on 12's for 3 1/2 years, and it is definately taking a toll on me. That and working nights too.

this is the longest I've ever worked 12's, but I've done nights for most of the past 20 years. I actually prefer nights, but not sure how much they affect your well-being in the long run.

When I was still in the AF we were told that is DOES shorten your lifespan, but I don't remamber how much. And it does cause problems sleeping, which leads to other problems which.... on and on and on

I have trouble sleeping during the day, which has just started in the past couple years. I think it's because I sleep at night on my days off, so my body just stays all mixed up.
