Ontario Rat knives offers their Rat 3 in both 1095 and D2. The 1095 version is for people who want their knife to be as tough as possible and if that means they have to sharpen it more often that's fine. The D2 version is for people who like a harder edge for things like carving hardwood and edge retention even if it means a little less toughness. Sr77 is like 1095 but better while Sr101 is more like D2
in that it is a nice hard steel that keeps a good edge. Swamprat and Scrapyard also make it so the negative trade offs are minimized. To get maximium toughness
out of the SR101 Swamprat differentially tempers it. To get the best possible hardness and edge retention out of S7 Scrapyard uses a proprietary 40+ hour heat treat.
What makes you think that SR77 is better than 1095 ? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
